Do you have any negative eating habits? There are some scary stats about our current eating behaviors that you need to know. Most people tend to have negative eating habits especially when they are on the go. Most people also prefer junk food rather than eating healthy meals. The scariest thing about their diet is that they are more prone to several diseases because of their eating habits.

People who prefer red and processed type of meat or fish are more prone to stomach and colon cancer. Meat which includes lamb, beef, pork, sausages, canned meat, bacon, and frozen pork can actually increase the chances of getting cancer. Along with these types of meat, the way of cooking can also contribute to increasing the risk of cancer. Certain chemicals that are found in such types of food can damage the cells.

According to some studies, food additives found in canned goods can cause cancer. A good example of a chemical found in most foods is aflatoxin. This type of toxin is found in stored food and it can actually help cause liver cancer in the body. Along with the chemical preservatives, colors and artificial sweeteners are also linked to cancer.

Nitrosamines are toxins which are also found in several meats and beers. They are certainly carcinogenic and they can cause pollution in the atmosphere. In terms of smoking and barbecuing, chemicals like polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons can be found. They can cause cancer and they are dangerous.

Bad eating habits are also linked to other medical conditions. For instance, mindless entertainment snacking can cause obesity and diabetes. Most children like to munch on unhealthy snacks while in front of the television or while playing computer games. While they are doing so, they do not monitor the type of foods that they consume.

While watching shows, they are exposed to food commercials that encourage unhealthy snacking. This kind of eating can increase their weight. In order to curb mindless snacking, it is best to take breaks from being in front of the computer whether at home or at the office to get a drink of water or a portion of healthy food. A 15 to 30 minute break can have a significant effect in your health. Stretching while taking a break can also reduce risks of hemorrhoids and eye problems.

Another bad eating habit that both adults and children have nowadays is eating too much junk food. Studies confirmed that junk food has the same effect to the brain as cocaine. This means that the brain can also be affected by too much eating of junk food, causing people to become more addicted. The only solution to this dilemma is to stop eating junk food. Instead of eating junk food, a healthy diet should be followed.

A proper healthy diet is based on eating less meat, animal fats and fried foods. Eating five portions of lightly cooked vegetables and fruits should also be an option. People should learn to eat more fiber and cereals and eat less salt and sugary foods. It is better to eat baked or boiled foods rather than dry foods.
